Florida National Veteran’s Cemetery
Florida National Cemetery is located in the Withlacoochee State Forest, approximately 50 miles north of Tampa in Sumter County, FL. The cemetery features a Memorial Pathway that is lined with a variety of memorials that honor America’s veterans. As of 2003, there were 47 such memorials at Florida National Cemetery most commemorating soldiers and veterans of 20th-century conflicts. From Tampa International Airport. Follow signs to 275 north. Proceed on 275 north to Interstate 75. Travel approximately 50 miles to Exit 309 (Webster), which places you on county road 476B West. Cemetery is on the left about 1 mile.
Half Moon Wildlife Management Area
Half Moon WMA is a 9,554-acre composite of wetlands, hammocks, flatwoods, and improved pasture. The Withlacoochee River borders the area to the west and Ventura Ranch borders Half Moon on the east. Mill Creek and Gum Slough, scenic spring-fed tributaries of the Withlacoochee, traverse the area. Half Moon’s scrubby flatwoods are home to a small population of threatened Florida scrub-jays.
Marsh Bend (Lake Pan) Outlet Park
This park features 16 picnic tables, 7 grills, a fishing pier, 2 boat ramps, 2 pet stations and access to hiking trails.
